Throughout the past few months, there have been a huge amount of articles published in the news about sculptures/ installations that use books as building blocks for art that are rather spectacular.

Featuring approximately 5,000 books, this creation by Alicia Martin named “Biographies” appear to be shooting out of a window from a giant hose. So far, there have been three site-specific installations of the falling books.

Well named I might add, “Home” is a recent sculptural installation created by Columbian artist Miler Lagos. Featured at the MagnanMetz Gallery, this igloo was shaped by stacking books in order to form a compact dome that is entirely self-supporting.

Did you know that there are over 15,000 books on Abraham Lincoln. At this time, this beastly collaboration of books is on display as a 3-story tall tower of books featured in the newly-constructed Ford’s Theatre Center for Education and Leadership in Washington DC. Love it!

In addition to the above mentioned fantabulous creations, Artist Raul Lemesoff has taken an old 1979 Ford Falcon (a well-established mode of transport in the military about 40 years ago) and has transformed into a mobile library shaped like a tank. For an article in a global news agency AFP, Lemesoff called his project a “contribution to peace through literature”, or what the artist calls the “Weapon of Mass Instruction,” can be found wandering the streets of Buenos Aires.
