Ray lamps by a Norwegian designer Kristine Five Melvær

These Ray Lamps designed by Kristine Five Melvaer are regarded as more functional sculptures rather than simple lighting devices, all thanks to their proportions and appearance. The designer focused on the communicative potential of an object, whereby her main goal was to create an emotional bond between object and customer. They provide a smaller and just the right amount of light when compared to other lighting fixtures, and because of this, they are regarded as more of an intimate item that is suited for cozy, personal environments.

These lamps relate to the archetype, but the way it’s perceived, resembles more a scenery or a sketch. The lamp reveals the light source but at the same time creates a distinction between light source and the lit space. The materials that were used are also simple, and fragile in their heart, but when combined on a welded steel structure, and with the use of some elastic textile coating the item as a single unit, most certainly appear steady and vigorous without losing its soft side.

Each item is unique with a different base and frame and unique textile covers that have slightly different color shades. By finding and revealing the sensual essence that these lamps have to offer, Melvaer tried to obtain sensuous objects with a fine touch of Scandinavian simplicity. This lighting object is available in two sizes and each one can be a part of your interior setting.
