There is such an overwhelming selection of foundations on the beauty market- it’s always difficult to choose, but there are a few simple guidelines that should narrow it down for you and if you follow them, perhaps you’ll find your holy grail- the perfect one!

The first thing to consider is your skin type- whether you’re dry, sensitive, oily or combination. This is really important, as, for instance, you don’t want to make your skin look drier with a matte foundation suitable for oily skin. Once that’s established, you might want to think about what effect you want to achieve- whether you want a full coverage, (because of pigmentation, bruising, redness and spots) or whether you just want to even out your skin tone. Whatever you desire, I can guarantee that there is a foundation out there that’s right for you!

However, to make things easier, I have been testing 3 different foundations that could address your very needs!

Oxygenetix- Oxygenating foundation

This Foundation takes the term “second skin” to another level- it truly feels like you’re wearing nothing on your skin. The goodies it contains-Ceravitae™ Complex, (which supports collagen production new connective tissue and skin cell growth) Vitamin E, grape seed extract and Salix alba extract- all work in harmony to create a light, breathable, protective skin. It addresses a wide range of skin problems, like rosacea, surface blemishes, age spots acne scars and minor injuries. Oxygenating Foundation shortens or eliminates the social downtime that would otherwise follow surgical procedures and aesthetic treatments like C02 laser resurfacing, microneedling, chemical peels, injectables, IPL, laser hair removal and other procedures. This foundation is oxygen-permeable and allows skin to breathe even when enjoying full coverage. There is also one for Acne Control, which contains 2% salicylic acid.

The downside is that it’s pricey - R1000 (R1100 for the Acne Control)- however, 1 pump can cover your whole face, so a little goes a long way and it’s totally brilliant for your skin!

Bodyography Natural Finish foundation

I really enjoyed using this foundation- it gives a flawless coverage without being cakey and it’s simply stunning for a special occasion. It’s highly pigmented, oil-free, paraben and fragrance-free and contains Mineral Seaweed Extracts and Vitamins C & E to revitalize and hydrate tired skin. I have dry, mature skin, so I was skeptical about the fact that it’s ideal for all skin types, but it gave me a beautiful finish using my fingers. I experimented with a damp sponge, building up the coverage and it lasted the whole day. When I paired it with the Bodyography  Veil Foundation Primer it was a winner!
What it offers:

• Safe for post-cosmetic procedures

• Full range of 10 shades strategically designed to work for all skin tones
• Dermatologist Tested

Retails at an affordable R350

Optiphi Hydration Tint

For the “no make up” girls- this one’s for you! Local brand Optiphi’s Hydration Tint SPF 20 offers a breathable moisturiser with mattifying light to medium coverage, delivering skin brightening and anti-aging results. You need to step up your skincare to make this one work for you, as the coverage is minimal, but it definitely evens out skin tone. It’s lovely to wear- with really good ingredients like Hyaluronic acid, Vitamins C & B3 and a great blend of UV filters. It’s also buildable- you can add another layer if you want a little more coverage.

Available in 4 shades: Ultra Light, Light, Medium & Dark. R795
