Neville Brody And All That Typography

Neville Brody is an internationally renowned designer, typographer, art director, brand strategist and consultant.

.......................................................................................................................................................................

He studied graphic design from 1977 to 1980 at the London College of Printing.

In the early 1980's Brody was a part of the alternative music scene. As art director of Fetish Records, he experimented with a new graphic language informed by ideas from the subculture.

He made the use of mixing typefaces with decorative details such as geometric elements, symbols, and pictures.

From 1981 to 1986 Neville Brody was art director of the magazine "The Face", where by he designed a distinctive typographical appearance which gave many designers worldwide inspiration.

From 1983 to 1987 Neville Brody designed the London program magazine "City Limits" and worked as a designer for "New Socialist", "Touch", "Arena" magazines, "Per Lui and Lei" (Italy), and "Actuel" (France). In 1987 he founded his own London-based design practice, The Studio, which worked on several corporate identities and fashion projects for clients including Nike, the Dutch Postal Service, and the German cable channel Premiere.

In 1988 the Victoria & Albert Museum in London mounted a retrospective of Neville Brody's work. In 1994 Neville Brody and F. Richards co-founded Research Studios for Visual Communications and Design in London.

In 1992 Neville Brody designed the image and branding of the House of Culture in Berlin. Neville Brody also designed the ORF (Austrian Television, 1992-93) image and Premiere (1991-94).

Neville has designed several new fonts, including Blur, Gothic, Pop, Six, Arcadia, Industria, Insignia, FF Blur, FF Pop, FF Gothic, and FF Harlem.

He is also a partner of FontShop International in Berlin and FontWorks in London, and founding editor of the digital magazine FUSE.

Is it not crazy to think that something we see everywhere, something that we never really take notice to, can be used so amazingly.
