Cocooned in a soft palette of monochrome, shearling throws and natural timbers- the Scandinavian interior aesthetic is easy, casually sophisticated and oh so livable! As we approach Autumn, I’m really feeling this homely vibe… Here are some images that stood out to me, I hope you enjoy!

Scandinavian Design refers to the design movement that emerged in the 1950s in Denmark, Sweden and Norway, Finland and Iceland. Typified by beauty incorporated in light colour, use of wood and natural materials, minimalism and functionality, this style isn’t trend orientated- it’s contemporary without the sterile, homely without the granny floral, it’s chic in neutral.

Something important in the development of its interior design style is that, for centuries, Scandinavian life was centered around the home. With a bad climate and long, cold winters, the home had to be a comfortable and inviting place of refuge. This led to the notion of good design, which fuses beauty with practicality. There’s something so inviting about these bedroom spaces, I could just spend a weekend at home watching movies, reading Vogue and drinking lattes in bed…

There’s something very fashion forward about this style… It may look like an easy thing to achieve, but you gotta know just how to drape that throw and how to place those objets in that effortlessly chic way to get it right… Style is an art, it’s inherent not learnt, and from a designer’s perspective, I have huge appreciation for these spaces and those who styled them so on point!

Here is a more polished and modern take on the look. I like the hardness of the white glossy kitchen, and the black pieces add a punch of edgy. I love so many design styles, which makes it difficult to choose, but I could totally rock this vibe for a few months…

This image showcases a darker take on things, it’s slightly more androgynous but great for those who like to live on the dark side. Black is forever cool and it adds a masculine feel to the Scandinavian look. So get yourself some faux fur throws, up the grey scale factor, add some wooden pieces, style it up and you’re good to go!
