The opening of SA Fashion Week last night saw some of our most esteemed designers showcasing their 2013 Spring/Summer collections at The Sheer Glamour show, sponsored by Motions and TRESemmé.  These two “on trend” hair-care brands shared their collaborative interpretations with designers Clive Rundle, Stoned Cherrie, Rubicon, Terence Bray, Black Coffee, Suzaan Heyns, Vesselina Pentcheva, Gert-Johan Coetzee and  Muntsho in a special runway show, highlighting the key Summer 2013 fashion and hair looks worn on a line-up of models and celebrities.

Songstress Chiano Sky and actresses Hayley Owen, Jay Anstey and Minnie Dlamini, presenters Dineo Moeketsi, Lalla Hirayama, Tansey Coetzee and Lorna Maseko and DJ Poppy Ntshongwana were all seen on the runway, sporting lavish garments and perfectly styled locks… a nice unexpected surprise.

The designers showing last night all surprised me, with dramatic yet soft materials used to create mystical, but perfectly stitched garments.  The consistent theme to me was “femme-fatal” but emphasizing this idea in a very soft, feminine way with the choice of flowing dresses, floral prints and lots of lace and chiffon being used.   My absolute favourite collection from The Sheer Glamour show was without a doubt Suzaan Heyns.  She created “a show stopper” which was her take on whimsical wedding gowns.  She never seems to disappoint.

Clive Rundle, at his second show of the evening bowled us over with a different take on the normal runway show.  He used “still” models to portray his unique collection which gave us all a look into the mind of Mr. Rundle.  Truly a mastermind!

I loved Black Coffee’s show too which was an amalgamation of the past and the future, featuring very dramatic accessories and pieces.

There is really so much more to see, it seems our designers are improving year on year with both their garments and the shows they produce.  If you want your own experience of SA Fashion Week, it’s on until the 13th of April at Crown Plaza, The Rosebank in Johannesburg.  Visit http://www.safashionweek.co.za/ for more info.

Here at Neofundi.com, we’ll keep you posted throughout the weekend with more “inside info” on the shows we’ve seen.
