I got light criticism last week for writing a completely smitten review about the Tallest Man on Earth. It was not my best writing, its true. Spelling errors and there was no organisation, I wrote as I felt which is ok with me. I write to express something, I think that my man-crush on Kristian Matsson was put across as I felt it.

I am going to do the same thing today.

I went to go watch the Blk Jks on Friday night. I have been hearing a fair amount of criticism of them recently so was slightly hesitant. I heard they were going through the motions on stage and that the passion they once displayed on stage was missing. Thats what I heard ... but not what I saw on friday. I experienced something closer to a "I was there when the Blk Jks started playing their new shit, where were you?"

They have been compared favourably with a variety of post rock bands like Pink Floyd and the like. They, I feel, have finally done away with that comparison and created something that can no longer be called the African Pink Floyd. They are now an entity completely to themselves, a journey of joy and light and lust on stage. It was a rebirth of apocalyptic proportions. I am so glad to have experienced this. Linda on stage (and I will make a comparison here, purely because of how he was dressed) looking like Billy Corgan did in the latter stages of his career when he wore a black leather and cotton flowing dress. He was wearing what can be best described as a long shiny pvc dress. It fucking rocked, he looked every bit the rock god that he is.

Tshepang was magnificent behind the drums, barechested and sweaty. Singing back up and sometime lead with power and heart. Smashing the drum kit and then rapidly descending into a Jazz dischord lightly tapping his cymbals with a delicate hand.
-
Molefi smiling at each and every member of the band as his bass kept everyone in control and in time, I have rarely seen a musician that happy on stage.
-
Mpumi. Have you seen a man bounce up and down on stage whilst playing sick sick riffs? I have.
-
So when someone comes to you and says that the Blk Jks have lost their magic. Tell them they are lying and need to see them again.
-
I know where I was when I heard the Blk Jks play their new shit, where were you?

PS: my deepest apologies to Shadowclub for not seeing them play, I was trapped outside.

The way you write is honest! I love this, shows integrity and one gets the full experience as you write. Thank you. I live in PE, if they travel here I will go see them. In fact will look at Youtube for a clip or 2. My point is you have created a fan and I have never heard them:)
Many thanks Beth. Do go see them.
