Pringle of Scotland Launches their New 3D Printed Collection

World-renowned brand, Pringle of Scotland, has used Selective Laser Sintering (an additive manufacturing technique that uses lasers as its power source to sinter powdered material, binding it together to create solid structure) to create the first ever, 3D printed, ready-to-wear collection.

Their Autumn/Winter 2014 collection shown at London Fashion Week showcases the unique nylon printed sections, created by material scientist, Richard Beckett, which is then handwoven into the knitwear through small hooks on the underside or stitched on top of the wool to create movable parts at this size.

To produce textiles that could move like traditional cloths, Beckett chose specific machinery that could create the tiny nylon parts needed to keep the material flexible.

Head of design at Pringle of Scotland, Massimo Nicosia said "I wanted to explore a move away from the more sculptural costume approach of such pieces, towards a more material, haptic-based approach.” And this is the end result.

We love the tailored, classic look we know the brand for and even more now with the slightly edgy elements added by the 3D printed fabrics which is more appealing to a youthful lady.
