I’m in love with my country, South Africa….our legacy, diverse cultures; great weather, serene places and delicious food have set us apart from many other First World countries.   The pride I’ve felt many times over has just been reignited by the success thus far at the London 2012 Olympic Games by names such as Chad le Clos, Cameron van der Burgh and the lightweight men’s four rowing team amongst others showcasing their talent.

There are few moments in history that have distinguished us from the rest and we have proved to be a nation brought together most sufficiently by sport. To remind you of several of our victories: winning the ‘95 Rugby World Cup – who could ever forget… SA wining the “African Cup of Nations” , the 2010 Soccer World Cup and our very own “Blade Runner” Oscar Pistorius, has done its part to show what’s behind the “smoke and mirrors” of the real essence of South Africa.

We are a country driven by proving “we’re not what you say we are”, by re-defining nature and exclaiming nurture to the rest of the world and as a proudly South African women, I’d like to salute the 2012 Olympic team and bring you the honour you deserve!  Thank you for making us love our country so much more and once again bringing pride to the Rainbow Nation the world has come to appreciate.

Best of luck for the rest of the Olympic Games, we look forward to your triumphant return athletes.

Amazing how sport (especially victory) brings us together as a nation.
