Although this bakery is not in SA, it’s a landmark for American food connoisseurs, and I know, us South African’s have an appreciation for the finer things in life and know a good thing when we see it.  So please do make an effort to drop in when next in the great, NYC.

Bien Cuit is a phrase the French often use to describe the darkest, crunchiest loaves, baked to the point of perfection and so could not sum this bakery up any better.  Owned by renowned Baker Zachary Golper, his wife and business partner, Kate Wheatcroft, it’s become a hub in the suburb of Brooklyn in NY.

Baker Zachary Golper trained under world renowned bread and pastry chefs across the continental United States and France, working according to the most basic and ancient techniques of bread making, often starting shifts at 1am under candlelight, using a hand built single deck, wood-fired oven.

The proof is in the pudding or dough in this case as many travel from far and wide to taste the bakers delicious offerings whom too has won many awards since the opening of Bien Cuit in 2011.

Please put this on to your to-do-list whence traveling to America again.  I guarantee you won’t be disappointed, you may, like me even want to bring back tasties for your friends and families.
