MARY DESIGNS AT MINAS TREND REVIEW 2012

I found out that the theme this year was sustainability which was very exiting for someone with my background in this new area of fashion. The opening show was by a designer from Minas Gerais, Mary Designs, she designed the clothing and the accessories, and the hats stood out in a bit way to me. They are made of newspaper, with a refined paper maiche technique and I was blown away at the precise construction and detailed craft of these amazing pieces. The shapes and sizes were varied, her creativity was on fire, evident in the scope of the designs, from Asian to French to Egyptian, they were all covered. As one came closer to the piece, the text of the newspaper became visible which was a great touch. All were made with the best quality artisanship, sturdy, strong and long lasting. Coupled with the black sunnies, pale faces with black lipstick, the look was editorial and super high fashion. I also included a couple of accessories shots, as I saw them aligning so well with the endless possibilities of creating beautiful work with discarded materials.
