COUTURE IN AFRICA
RENOWNED SOUTH AFRICAN DESIGNER SPERO VILLIOTI INVITED TO PRESENT A GUEST LECTURE AT TOP INTERNATIONAL FASHION SCHOOL, PARSONS THE NEW SCHOOL FOR DESIGN NEW YORK
Parsons The New School for Design is notorious for cultivating legendary fashion icons such as Marc Jacobs, Donna Karan and Tom Ford (among a long list of others). And the school holds its own as being continually ranked in the top five fashion design institutions on the international level by a variety of sources.
Versatility and ingenuity are probably the key attributes any hopeful fashion great is required to possess. Not surprising then that Parsons The New School for Design invited veteran leading South African couture designer who is also founder of one of the country’s fastest growing fashion schools and patron for fashion education for underprivileged students through the Couture Educational Foundation; Spero Villioti to present a lecture on couture at the fashion building located in the heart of the garment district; Manhattan, New York. Mr Villioti will fly out to the fashion capital in September of this year to address the international students as part of the Bachelor of Fine Arts programme.
An invitation to make a mark in the minds of the youth in the international fashion education community, especially at an institution such as Parsons The New School for Design, New York is an honour to say the least. The South African fashion industry can be proud of their members; such as Mr Villioti, who represent the level of excellence this country is capable of and who are continually contributing to the richness of the industry in ways such as this.
