I was so captivated by the cool factor of a Retro Clifton Bungalow featured in the December/January 2015 Elle Decoration  Inspired and very jelly, I searched for some of my favourite Retro finds…

This unassuming bungalow is actually a 3 storey home! The owners wanted to break away from the all-white beach house look, and also wanted to support the local design industry. One of my favourite things are their vintage SAA posters showing Clifton beach in the 50s, uber cool Retro detail!

Whether you are aware of the brand or not, this chair is an absolute design icon and ultra-Retro. The Tulip chair (1953-58), designed by Eero Saarinen for Knoll from his Pedestal collection, was conceived from his from desire to address the issue of the “ugly, confusing, unrestful world underneath chairs and tables” also put as “the slum of legs”. This piece with its corresponding dining table is my design go to, it works in so many spaces and settings & has become a design classic!

An ultra-cool South African brand is who we have to thank for this quirky wonderful storage unit- Dokter and Misses! This is their 3 Door Hinge unit in teal, available in a single and double door units, and a great selection of colours. Super cool as a server or the single doors as bedside tables, they create the perfect Retro pop for any space.

Mustard is sooo Retro but also a classic shade- bold enough to make its mark yet subdued and tasteful. This gorge armchair is the Helsinki from Mezzanine Interiors. The legs are a playful and unexpected pairing with this ultra fab colour, love love!

Another fabulous creation from Mezzanine Interiors and very similar to the Clifton Bungalow’s coffee tables- the Pebble Coffee Tables. I really love the concept of layering & styling coffee tables, and with this pair you can really style it up with a plush shaggy rug, amazing coffee table books & objects d’arts!

This is the HG Drinks Unit by Tonic, sophisticated and very edgy! Retro can have a more serious side…

Why not incorporate a bit of Retro-esque pattern and colour into your space through scatter cushions? A small commitment to the aesthetic with major impact and a more  affordable solution. Country Road’s Palin and Dalo cushions above are a perfect choice!
