United Nude is a leading footwear and 3D SYSTEMS design company, specialising in high heels, founded by Dutch architect Rem D. Koolhaas (not to be mistaken for Rem Koolhaas, his namesake and uncle), and British shoemaker Galahad Clark, whose family founded the Clarks brand.

Joining forces for a major collaboration project and exhibition, a select group of 5 of the worlds leading architects and designers came together, exploring and challenging 3D printing technology by designing 3D printed ladies high heels, taking up to 26 hours to print on a laser printer, for each pair

The participants in this project are Ben van Berkel, Zaha Hadid and Fernando Romero whom all three are architects, as well as Ross Lovegrove and Michael Young, the two product designers and have been quoted saying “the shoes are very easy to walk in, we made a strong construction inside the shoe so that whenever you walk on it you feel stable."

Anyone wanna try? (I’m not so convinced!)

The Re-Inventing Shoes project is about exploring and pushing the boundaries of this rapidly developing technology by creating shoes with the largest amount of sculptural freedom. The production method used is the highest quality of 3D printing (SelectiveLaser Sintering) in a hard Nylon and all-new soft Rubber material. United Nude have figured out a way to combine harder and softer 3D printed parts for creating fully functioning shoes. Each shoe will be available as-a-up-to 50 pair limited edition.

The “art project” was launched at a spectacular event in Salone del Mobile 2015, from the 14-19th of April in Teatro Arsenale, Via C.Correnti 11 – Milan.  If you’re interested in getting all the deets on the ins and outs of these shoes, and the creative inspiration from each participant then click on http://www.unitednude.com for loads more info.
