We look forward to the couture collections for so many reasons–the pure fantasy of it all, the exquisite details, and of course, the often equally as fantastical beauty looks.  From elaborate hair accessories to full-face makeup, below are some of our favourite beauty looks from the spring 2012 couture collections.

Best Hair Foliage: This has become our favourite category, and this season we have a tie between Giambattista Valli‘s blooms and Maurizio Galante’s bamboo. Extra beauty points for Joan Smalls’ smile. Couture can be so serious sometimes.

Blushiest Blush: We saw a lot of obvious, contoured blush on the spring RTW runways, and it continued in couture. Here are some glowing complexions at Elie Saab, Alexandre Vauthier, and Bouchra Jarrar.

Best Matchy-Matchy Makeup: What has Angelina Jolie unleashed by matching her lipstick to her dress and accessories at the Golden Globes? Here’s Alexis Mabille’s take on complementary makeup.

Most Distracting “Piercings”: We have no idea what the makeup or hair looks like because we can’t stop looking at the huge nose rings at Givenchy. Ow, their septums…

Best Windy Day Hair: At Giorgio Armani Prive, the hair (and head pieces) had a distinctly tornado-ish look.

Best Faux Bob: A little Mad Men, a little Mom…a lot perfect. The faux bobs at Christian Dior were lovely.

Most Striking Eyes:The green horticultural influence at Maurizio Galante and the spidery, exaggerated lashes at Stephane Rolland kept us mesmer-EYE-zed.

Best Amy Winehouse Tribute: Jean Paul Gaultier took Amy’s look and multiplied it by a zillion. (and there’s Andrej Pejic with a blonde beehive. There’s no style he can’t make look good.)

Best Shower Cap/Cinnamon Bun Hair: Kudos to Christophe Josse for working both of these elements into his runway show.

Best Way To Cut Down on Hair & Makeup Costs: At Martin Margiela Artisanale, the models’ heads were completely covered. We’re doing this the next time we have a bad hair day. If it’s good enough for the Margiela girls…
