Multifaceted Taryn Louch, one of our favourite Jo'burg fundis, gets up close and personal with neofundi. 

 

Tell us about your Creations Company- CreaTTe and what you do?
It’s sometimes easier to ask what I don’t do hehe I studied Drama and English at the University of Pretoria, and this gave me a solid foundation to build my career across a realm of mediums. I am a copywriter, and write copy for radio adverts, television adverts, billboards, magazines and in-house campaigns and profiles. I also write celebrity profiles. In 2010 I started a company called CreaTTe with my Business Partner, Personality, Thuli Zulu. CreaTTe is an international creaTTions company inspired to bring into existence the products of the imagination; and encompasses all things creative, including Broadcasting, Entertainment, Events Management, Public Relations, Productions and Media Management. I handle all publicity for the Europa Art Group, including illustrious brands such as Dumond, Preview, Eurocomfort and Europa Art Shoes. I also freelance in the realms of publicity and copywriting for companies such as FS Collections and Strategnos. Another creative project that I am involved with is Barefoot No More – a product with a purpose – that ensures South Africa’s children go barefoot no more. By buying a pair of slip slops, you can sponsor a pair of school shoes to a child in need. This is a truly wonderful cause that is close to my heart.


Acting and Singing are also part of what you do.
YES! Acting and singing are my absolute passions! On the small screen, my television debut was on Angel’s Song. I also love presenting and was a finalist in 2008 for 20Something. I would love to present my own lifestyle show. I also love the big screen, and am shooting a film with Sonia Sedibe in October. When I’m not on screen, my first love is theatre, and I would love to appear in a musical theatre piece on Broadway or the West End. (Watch this space) I am currently working on a phenomenal theatre piece with Jamie-Lee Sexton of Idols fame. I also love to dance, and have danced in numerous flamenco shows under the choreographic genius of Helena Montoya and Colin Mandell. I have a glorious Agent, Lisa Modisane of Legends Actors and Performers’ Management.


Radio Presenting is something that you love, tell us about it?

I love to talk, so radio is a natural environment in which I thrive. I started out doing voice overs, which I still love doing, because I get to play various characters, from little girls, to husky vixens, kugels to neurotic moms and uptight stock exchange reporters. I now have a radio show called Celeb 411, soon to be aired on Neofundi. On this show, I interview South African and International Celebrities. My aim is to ask unconventional questions, so I do a lot of research, in order to keep the content fresh and fabulous. 


Who do you consider to be the most successful person (someone you look up to)?

I really look up to Ryan Seacrest and Jenifer Lopez. For me, Ryan Seacrest has achieved everything that he set out to do. He started out as an overweight teenager with a dream. Through his dedication and passion, he pushed and pushed, working his body and honing his skills until he landed the Idols Presenting job. In this business, you need to own what you do in order to be a success, and he now owns his own production company, producing hit shows such as Keeping up with the Kardashians. He is a true example of “if you can dream it, you can do it.” Jennifer Lopez has been an Idol to me since as long as I can remember. She is someone who wanted success enough to fight for it with everything she had, and look at her now. These people inspire me to keep pushing until I achieve all that I would like to in my life.


Who is your greatest inspiration?
I am inspired by the strength and positivity of my mom, but my greatest
inspiration has to be Maya Angelou. As fate would have it, I was fortunate
enough to be invited to a private soiree at the Harlem home of this iconic
woman, whilst I was living in New York. Passionate and powerful, talented
and tenacious, this wonder-woman has inspired my work for as long as I can
remember. I live by one of her signature statements: "People will forget
what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget
how you made them feel."


What is the one thing you still want to achieve in this life?
I want to make it really big! It has always been a dream of mine to walk the red carpet, get interviewed on all the big talk shows (pity that Oprah is over) and be recognized for what I do. I believe that nothing worth achieving is achieved easily, so here’s hoping that all my hard work pays off, and that one day soon I will see my name in lights.


Which TV programme do you never want to miss?
I’m not a big TV series fan; because my schedule is so erratic that I can never make a set time to watch something. When Desperate Housewives came out, I bought the box set, and watched the whole series. Now that PVR has come out, that’s all changed. My favourite programmes are CSI, Masterchef Australia, Cake Boss, The Dance Scene, Life in the Fab Lane and Keeping up with the Kardashians.


What is the one thing you would want your children to know?
One thing I would like my children to know about me, is that I put passion into each and every single thing I do. To me, this is the key ingredient to success. The Greek word Pathos encompasses everything I believe is the key to making a sensational success of all that you do.


Summer or Winter holiday?
It would have to be a Summer holiday. I absolutely love the beach, hot summer days and basking in the sun.


Who for you is the most stylish celebrity?
That’s a tough one to answer. I have a few for various reasons:
Eva Longoria – sensual and stylish
Jennifer Lopez – beautiful and bold
Kim Kardashian – sexy for embracing her curves
Catherine Zeta-Jones – classic and timeless
Beyonce – over the top glamorous
Sarah Jessica Parker – pushing the fashion envelope


Best in Joburg for:
-cupcakes: I’m wheat intolerant, so whilst I LOVE the idea of these miniature delights, unfortunately I can’t have them. Baby Cakes in New York specialises in signature cupcakes that are wheat free, but in Joburg… mmmm I would have to say I Love Cupcakes, for their mouth-watering menu.
-salads: It would have to be the Texas and Butternut salads at Tasha’s, and the Quinoa Salad at Tasha’s Morningside.
-cappuccino: I love red cappuccinos... much healthier than a regular cappuccino, and they are the most delicious at Tasha’s and Woolworths.
-dancing: I am a flamenco dancer, and love to dance at The Dance Café in Sunninghill. When I’m out for a night with friends, I LOVE RnB and Hip Hop, so Taboo, Icon or Hush.
-breakfast: I know I sound biased, but there is nothing quite like the buzz and bustle at Tasha’s Morningside for breakfast on a Sunday.


Tell us something about yourself that we don’t know.
One of my biggest dreams is to act in a Bollywood film and it has always beem a dream of mine to record a Christmas album.

Top 5 brands you love and why?
Christian Louboutin – there is something about a pair of heels that I just can’t explain, and Christian Louboutin has found the fabulous formula to elongating a girl’s legs, making you feel statuesque and glamorous in a pair of his signature stilettos.
Elie Saab – Elie Saab has perfected the blueprint to designing couture gowns that embrace and showcase a woman’s curves. His dresses have flair, finesse and form, and make you feel like a million dollars.
MAC – Make up is meant to enhance and accentuate a woman’s best facial features. MAC has the right recipe to glam a girl up. From their strobe cream, which is like J Lo Glow in a tube, to their sticky lipglass – you simply cannot be without it. I learnt from the best – my favourite makeup artist Caileigh Davis is a MAC makeup guru:)
Tom Ford *Guess* - I know it sounds ridiculous, but ever since I was old enough to remember, I wanted to be a Guess girl in one of their campaigns. Their clothing, shoes and accessories are flirty and fun, and remind me of a wholesome American girl.
Gavin Rajah – I wrote my thesis on Bollywood film, and I must have had an Indian influence in a past life, because I am so drawn to India. Gavin’s designs are contemporary and international, with a subtle soupcon of Indian influence and I love his collections. At one of his first fashion shows that I went to, I fell in love with a lilac one shoulder gown, and the rest is history.


Bags or shoes?
Ah what a difficult one…I LOVE shoes and bags, but if I was forced to choose, I would have to say shoes! I have over 200 pairs, and I wear all of them. Shoes maketh an outfit;)

What’s in your handbag?
Lipgloss (I never go anywhere without it), Kim Kardashian’s new perfume (love, love, LOVE) , my blackberry (crackberry) , my camera (love photo opportunities) , a small make up bag (you never know who you’re going to run into) , my purse (in case I land up at Tasha’s:) , my Moleskin (for all the fabulous ideas that come to me whilst driving, in studio and other inopportune places) and my fuchsia pink glasses case, that holds my black framed glasses and my Swarovski pink pen:)
