With SA Fashion Week now over and it delivering on fantastic shows, great talent and gorgeous clothes, I reflect on the last two days and that which was seen on the runway, giving it the thumbs up to “Local is Lekker.”

My favourite diverse designer in SA right now has to be SIES! Isabelle.  She designs garments to compliment and flatter the female frame making use of soft silhouettes and asymmetrical lines which allows for comfortable and wearable garments that are not bound by age or trends but always has you looking remarkable.  Her collection was inspired by a forest fairytale and her garments which are made from raw silk and wool is a combination fit for a winter wonderland.

You can find the brand at The Space and Hermanna Rush

Coleen Eitzen is known to cater for “the customer” and with you in mind she produced easy to wear garments to put the ease back into fashion.  This season sees them go SMART, GROWN UP and more sophisticated, but still maintaining the essence of what they do best.  Colours are purple, burnt orange and black. The look is simple and classical.

I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of designers whom are catering specifically for men which sheds light on the new Metrosexual modern man and the stance he takes on fashion.  Roman Handt, Ephymol and Life by Andre Martin particularly impressed me.

Bianca Warren focuses on supplying every day wear and seasonal event garments for women. I loved her “lady in red” dress.

Mzantsi specializes in sexy urban youth street fashion.  I loved their black and white combinations which oozes sensuality.

Well done designers, please take a bow!

Supporting our designers is what will continue to make the fashion industry in SA grow and help in putting us on the map globally.  We are so proud and see the improvements which flaw us each year.  Enough said, we can’t wait for SA Fashion Week next year and trending in our favourite new designer outfits in Autumn/Winter 2013.
