Stranger Than Fiction, chocolate chip cookies

I have become the poster child for getting divorced in your 20's. I have an extra-mural for each night of the week and I'm quite sure that Carry Bradshaw and her band of skanks would have a shrine to my efforts somewhere in their over permed and preened corner of Manhattan.

Anyway, the one activity I've been involved in is an acting course, which I have to admit, has been a lot of fun. Its nearing my 6th and final week, when I have to perform a monologue. I can't wait, mostly because I've chosen a piece from my favourtie film, Stranger Than Fiction, starring Will Ferrel (all hail) and Maggie Gyllenhaal. It's the scene when she talks about why she dropped out of Harvard Law and becomes a baker because she believes that she can change the world with cookies. I've included the clip below, so be sure to watch.

To get into character I decided to bake these chocolate chip cookies, believing all the while that I had the power to move mountains with each drop of dark chocolate.

Ingredients

    • 350g/12¼oz unsifted flour
    • 1 tsp bicarbonate of soda
    • 1 tsp salt
    • 225g/8oz butter
    • 175g/6¼oz caster sugar
    • 1 tsp vanilla extract
    • eggs
    • 350g/12¼oz dark chocolate chips

    Method
    • Preheat the oven to 190C/375F/Gas 5.
    • In a bowl, combine the flour, baking soda and salt.
    • In another bowl, combine the butter, sugar and vanilla extract until creamy. Beat in the eggs. Gradually beat in the flour mixture. Stir in the chocolate.
    • Split the pliable dough into two halves, rolling each out into sausage shapes, approximately 5cm/2in in diameter. Wrap them in cling film and transfer to the refrigerator until ready to use.
    • When you are ready to bake the cookies, simply cut the log into slices 2cm/¾in thick and lay on a baking tray, widely spaced apart. Bake for 9-11 minutes.

Doesn't seem like i can include video in this post but click through here and you can see the clip from Stranger Than Fiction, I would highly reccommend it.
