As a woman from a contrasting generation, I was taught that “less is more” when it comes to any and everything that may enhance a ladies natural beauty.  You could quickly distinguish a person’s social status by the amount of make-up, perfume and jewellery she wore and if any of these augmentations were considered excessive on a particular character by the neighbourhood watch, you were cast into a title-box that not even Martha Stewart would be able to escape.

This notion couldn’t be farther from the truth today, as we’ve seen, and continue to follow the trend of stacking ‘em up! The bohemian kind-of lifestyle that entails freedom of expression in many forms is the societal norm which many believe to bring about greater social acceptance and less anxiety among ourselves, consequently creating woman with confidence.

The truth is, this jewellery trend suits me just fine as I’m able to get away with another rule of pairing, “like with like.”  Stacking ‘em up allows me to mix and match…old & new, pricy & modest and the best of all is that no-one (really) could ever tell the difference.  For me, the verdict is: The more, the better, but I’m sure there’ll be a time in fashion when my mother’s rules will once again apply, and That will be for the next generation to figure out.

Over-the-top, ultra-embellished, layered accessories and tats (permanent or not) are at the front of this year’s style radar, mixed up with head-turning stones, soft feminine chains and strings of pearls. The more, the better!
