Range Rover – sounds grand doesn’t it?

But driving a Range Rover in a sporting fashion is like eating a Michelin star meal with haste; somewhat of a waste.  Well, not unless it is a Range Rover Sport, which is better savoured through a variety of moods and driving styles – it’s the cherry on top of the double rich cake of decadence.

Now that I’ve got your mouth watering, I’d like to tell you why the 3.0 turbocharged diesel SE Range Rover Sport is the pièce de résistance in the range, and my personal favourite. It’s an all-rounder: powerful but frugal (under 10 l in and around town), brisk without being raucous (0-100km/h in 7.2 sec) and well equipped without being technologically laden with unnecessary bells and whistles. It’s well priced within its range, though unfortunately not cheap by any stretch of the imagination, at R 1 170 000.00

Driving a Range Rover is a sign of power – it’s an ego trip for the driver but for good reason. The Sport, an SUV, is large while remaining sexy; therefore devilishly attractive and not everyone can afford to own one – making it a status symbol. It’s arguably the most attractive premium SUV on the market, but looks aside, it’s fundamentally a Land Rover which means it is able to go anywhere. Its large list of capabilities are an essential part of its character. Though, 99% of Sport drivers won’t be going anywhere other than well-heeled boulevards and enjoying its ability to elevate its ride height via its air suspension – mounting the pavement.

The Sport’s, every day highlight is the way it make its driver feel. It does this via an outstanding ride: smooth, quiet, agile, responsive, comfortable; all while giving its driver and passengers a birds eye view of the road, making you feel in command. Its design and lead engineering make the drivers of the Sport feel secure, knowing that it is more than safe but can also reliably take you through almost all road conditions.

The Sport is available in two diesel engines: 3.0 and 4.4 and four petrol: 3.0 (250kW), 3.0 (280kW), 5.0 (376kW), 5.0 (405kW).

Prices begin at R970 000 for the 3.0 S petrol model and top out at R 1 902 400 for the flagship beast SVR.
