Ralph Lauren opened his fall show to the theme from the hit British period drama and the weary crowd of editors soaked it all up.
Some Tweets from the fashion pack as evidence: “Ralph Lauren is taking us to Downton Abbey for Fall and we couldn’t be happier,” from Harper’s Bazaar; “The theme song of Downton Abbey heralded the start of the Ralph Lauren's show and my heart swooned,” from Derek Blasberg; and “A little mortified by how excited I got hearing Downton Abbey theme song at Ralph Lauren,” from Style.com’s Meenal Mistry.
Models were fashioned with elegant gents to start in tweeds and plaids, fair isle knits and houndstooth coats, all accessorized with bowler hats. Then it ended with velvet smoking robes, top hats, and canes. There were classic silk and satin black evening gowns embroidered with gold, one even came with an ostrich feather cape. And for a statement, the fuchsia one definitely stood out.
