New works by HUSH at 941Geary in San Francisco

Mixed media, in my books is quite a difficult thing to incorporate, it either captures your attention or it doesn’t, featured here is one aspect of mixed media collages that will grab your attention and keep you interested. UK-based HUSH opened a show of his latest work at the 941Geary in San Francisco within the month of March 2012. His new works bear his signature style and content is your traditional Japanese geisha women that wear many layers of Western style Graffiti. He incorporates any and every form of mixed media (painting, screen, printing, spray painting and collage). Through his love of art, HUSH creates multi layered complex surfaces, filled with playful patterns and bright coloured combinations. “I can visualize the image before I create it, and then… use a lot of techniques to help us get as far as making the image look distressed, complicated and almost deconstructed from its original state through everything from tagging, throwing paint on the image to overlaying different mediums… I utilize nearly every way of placing paint onto a medium as is possible through screen print, paint, spray paint, acrylic, oils, inks and then also taking that off; removing it again and building the image up from scratch so that you get a different appearance… It’s about mark-making ultimately, and still having a composition built around that.” Stunning and creative, HUSH’s works range from small to huge pieces and installations. His rich style and breath-taking works capture everyone who comes across it.
