Marilyn Monroe said: "What do I wear in bed? Why, Chanel No. 5..." She didn’t know then, but this would go down in history: it’s a quote that links two legendary icons, the actress Monroe herself and the mythic Chanel No. 5.

The perfume is a timeless symbol of sophisticated elegance, one which has lost none of its allure. It’s reached its ninetieth birthday and it’s wearing really well: still on top and still adored.

When Mademoiselle Coco Chanel created it in 1921, she said: “I don’t want any rose or lily smells – I want an elaborate perfume.” And she got it, thanks to the talent of the chemist Ernest Beaux. He perfectly summed up Coco’s desires and spirit, producing an ideal fragrance with a rich bouquet that includes around 80 ingredients, including ylang-ylang, Grasse jasmin and Rose of May.

A favourite of the stars – Lauren Hutton and Catherine Deneuve to name two – today Chanel No. 5 has the delicate face of Audrey Tautou as its testimonial.

Great ladies each in their own personal ways, such talent and so much glamour, what a gift they gave us.
