The devastating earthquake in New Zealand, Christchurch, in 2011 destroyed one of the city’s most iconic landmarks, the Christchurch Cathederal.
Architect and 2014 Pritzker Prize winner Shigeru Ban was commissioned with the task of coming up with a temporary solution for the distraught community. Ban built a Cardboard Cathedral with 98 cardboard tubes and 8 steel shipping containers.
Herewith, the remarkable end result.
