I've never been very experimental with my hair. At high school I went through a cringe red streak phase, and then after school I dabbled in blonde here and there. But I've never done anything too drastic, and leading up to my wedding (this past April) I didn't want to touch it. Also, I have to be very careful with my curly, sometimes frizzed out hair (I'm done for in Durban). Never say never though, and this just may be the year (or maybe next year) for a change.

So... This came at just the right time. The amazing David Gillson, director and master stylist for Carlton Hair Constantia, Hyde Park and Melrose Arch, has the Spring/Summer 2015-2016 hair trends to share.

Sugar Pop (top image)
Wild and fun, sugar pink, mint green and a violet grey are the new hot and trendy hair colours taking over the runways from Chanel to Dior. Korean model, Soo Joo Park, is the poster girl for this look. Davines Alchemic conditioner (R305) in red, copper and silver are great for achieving this look.

Gender Neutral (above)
This trend is all about androgyny and the breakdown of the gender barriers. Ever since Alessandro Michele took over as the head designer at Gucci he sealed this as the major new trend; boys wearing flares and soft chiffon tops with longer hair and finally the death of the beard. The boys are borrowing their girlfriend’s styling products, while girls opt for more masculine short crops. Selfridges, the top store in London, has just launched a gender neutral floor where boys and girls can shop for gender neutral clothes and beauty products. Transgender models and celebrities are the new norm, a la Caitlyn Jenner on the Vanity Fair cover. The recent runway shows had loads of new transgender models. Boys are using Davines More Inside Volume Boosting Mousse (R265) and Davines Essential OI Oil (R240/R470) borrowed from the girls, and the girls are loving the Davines More Inside Strong Dry Wax (R330) and Davines More Inside Strong Hold Cream Gel (R230).

Sweet Romance (above)
This trend is all about the haute hippy glam maxi dresses and caftans with loads of ethnic accessories to show off long, waved, crimped and braided hair. Davines More Inside Sea Salt Spray (R260) is the way to achieve this beachy, slept-in look.
Prissy and Prim (above)
Demure elegance has replaced the overtly sexy look. Valentino's prim Peter Pan collars with kitten heals embody this look. Hair accessories are huge, such as bows as seen on the Chanel runway to keep hair neat and ladylike. The baby beehive, as seen in the Prada campaign, give a look of demure elegance.
