Food and Travel are Two of My Passions

Arriving back in Johannesburg after a great holiday in Cape Town(which was memorable and fantastic), the Brunette(my lovely wife) and I start panicking about where in the world we can go for the year ahead. Out comes the calendar, and we mark off all potential long weekends, where thankfully in South Africa, we are blessed with many of them. Next we check family commitments for travelling and finally revert to our bucket list to see which destinations we can start to tick off.

I’m usually in a total panic until at least two vacations are booked…watch this space. More food and travel details to follow. Next on the list are Las Vegas and Namibia. Expect feedback on food from both…..

Closer to home however, we sampled James Diack’s new spot – Coobs in 4th Ave Parkhurst. I have been an avid follower of his for a number of years, and his latest offering is superb. His credentials span The Showroom, Jinga, Maestro Antonio and Pomodoro.

I love his innovation and skill, with amazingly fresh ingredients, many of which are organic: sourced and grown by James on his farm just outside Johannesburg.

You know the culinary journey is going to be a good one, when you are presented with the two-toned red and green bread on arrival

Chocolate brownie for dessert

His environment is laid back, with a frequently changing menu. His staff are attentive and well educated about the menu and the ingredients.
