Last night, for the fourth year running, South Africa’s top fashion retailer, Mr Price, joined ELLE in the search for SA’s hottest design talent at the Crowne Plaza, Rosebank Hotel. The theme was the interpretation of “Show Your Pattern”. The judges included ELLE’s senior fashion editors, Kirsty Stoltz and Poppy Evans, Karla Caffyn-Parsons from Mr Price, trend forecaster Dion Chang, Danica Lepen from Marion and Lindie, and fashion bloggers Mili Bongela and Sarah Badat. 

Kelly Esterhuyse was the talented winner and her knitwear collection, let me tell you, was brilliant.

Kelly's brand is called ULIJANA. Seeing the incredible design talent from the 8 finalists made me feel excited about the future of design in our country! Kelly received a R25 000 cash prize, Mr Price mentorship programme with flights and accommodation, the opportunity to adapt her range to be sold at Mr Price, the opportunity to show at next year’s SA Fashion Week, including R5 000 towards making up the range, as well as an exclusive feature in ELLE and one year’s subscription.

Kutloano Molokomme (Spero Villioti Elite Design Academy Graduate of 2010)was given a special mention despite not winning. Molokomme delivered a strong collection dominated by cut-out patterns on red leather inspired by Hindu temple sculptures and Chinese artistry. Mili Bongela tweeted "This guy means business. Bloody bold statement he makes!" so true...

The finalists included Anneke Koster, Khumo Manota, Samantha Constable and Charl JVR all four LISOF Graduates with diverse visions and exceptional talent.

Danielle Hartman was one of my favourite finalists. Her first dress (on the left) a magnificent pleated and drapped long white evening gown and (on the right) her exquisite hand painted delft inspired prints were absolutely awesome!

Well done to the Elle team and Mr Price for putting together a proudly South African experience.
