Sarah Burton, the creative director of Alexander McQueen, showcased a rather dramatic Pre-Fall 2012 Collection...

A nipped waist and a circle skirt is, of course, one of the template silhouettes Alexander McQueen left as a legacy, but this season, when many designers seem to be thinking about full skirts, Burton’s made an entire centerpiece out of them. The potential overload of detail is subdued by a darkly subtle palette of burgundy, aubergine, and oxblood red, overlaid with black baroque cutouts on a shearling coat or a sleeveless full-skirted dress.

There was still a flavor of McQueen drama, but the taste was fresh. It left you wanting a whole lot more.
