My favourite 'Did You Know" Facts

Fact 1

Having sex can reduce a fever because of the sweat produced.

Sex is also a pain reliever, ten times more effective than Valium: immediately before orgasm, levels of the hormone oxytocin rise by five times, determining a huge release of endorphins. These chemicals calm pain, from a minor headache to arthritis or migraines, and with no secondary effects. Migraines also disappear because the pressure in the brain's blood vessels is lowered while we have sex. So now we see that actually, a woman's headache is rather a good reason for having sex, not against it.

Fact 2

Women speak about 7000 words a day. The average man averages just over 2000.

Fact 3

No word in the English language rhymes with purple, orange, month or silver.

Fact 4

More than 30% of the greenhouse gas produced by New Zealand comes from the burps and farts of the country's 45 million sheep and 10 million cows.

In fact, agriculture accounts for 14% of greenhouse gases emitted worldwide every year. Also, most of these emissions are methane, which is 23 times as powerful as carbon dioxide. The average cow releases 100-500 liters of methane into the atmosphere EVERY DAY. The problem is especially bad in New Zealand, where they proposed a flatulence tax in 2003.

Fact 5

No one has blue eyes!

As you look closely in the mirror trying to disprove this, physics explains how this is possible. Your eyes appear blue in the same way that the sky appears blue- scattered light. The iris, which is responsible for eye colour, has three layers. Each layer has different colour pigments such as yellow or brown which, when combined, make hazel and brown eyes.

But blue and grey eyes have a brown pigment in one small layer of the eye and as light bounces off of the iris, creates a blue color due to its short wavelengths! Source
