For those who missed Paul Bommer‘sexhibition in Wilkes St last month or who have never heard of him, featured here is his fourth and last batch of his faux delft tiles from that show. Many of his tiles are inspired by stories in the pages of Spitalfields Life. Successively, Paul has been overwhelmed with commissions to design new delft tile fireplaces for old houses in Spitalfields. I love delft design and thought this would be interesting to post.
The Auricula's Of Spitalfields
Paul’s sly witty style is perfectly at home on tiles, bringing an extra level of humour and sophistication to this appealing vernacular art.“I’ve always been fond of delft tiles and the graphics of that period,” he admitted to me, “it’s like Folk Art at the low end, a popular medium illustrating the characters people knew and the things they used.”
