David Gillson is a Salon Owner at Carlton Hair and Celebrity Hairstylist for celebs like Tamara Dey, and Leanne Liebenberg. He’s been a Style Awards contributor to local fashion magazines such as Elle, Marie Claire, Fair Lady, and Glamour. He’s also won an SA Style Award for Best Hairstylist and Innovative Style!
David has travelled to Cosmoprof – the world’s biggest showcase for trends in beauty and more – every March for the past 10 years. He joined the DAVINES worldwide tour this year in Miami, and showcased new cuts and colour in hair in Berlin in 2011. David has also been a judge on SA Style Awards for the past 10 years and has recently Judged the FAIRLADY's Best of Beauty Awards – 2012 . In addition to Marie Claire South Africa Prix d'Excellence de la Beauté.

How did you get into hair?
I was always obsessed with doing hair and after a brief stint at Fashion School started my Hairdressing career studying at Carlton Hair.

If you were not into hair, what career would you have pursued?
I would definitely have gone into something in the Fashion world.

What are 3 things you never travel without?
I would die without my iPad so that's always first on my list.
Then I always travel with a cashmere throw or my shahtoosh.
Ear plugs and sleeping tablets!!!

2013 hair trends
Short choppy fringes are going to be big.
Solid colour is replacing the Ombré look and solid bleached blonde hair like Daphne Groeneveld's new look is the hottest colour.
The boyish crop as seen at Louis Vuitton and Chanel is fresh new trend.
The green movement is gaining momentum and hair colour without ammonia and more gentle like Davines New Colour is a huge trend.

Best Hairstyle trend of all times
The Bob is always amazing and can be updated every season.

What has been the worst hair trend in your opinion
Grungy greasy hair. I prefer a clean groomed look!

What has been the greatest invention of the 20th century?
Hair Bleach

Which politician would you like to give a makeover to?
Hillary Clinton

What inspires your style?

Travel ,Travel ,Travel.

When you meet people, do you first look at their hair ....and improve it in your mind?

It’s terrible but yes absolutely.  

Which international celebrity do you consider a style icon?

Kate Moss and Charlotte Rampling.
