Winter has officially arrived and the cold has me drawn towards dark & moody decor. Think rich intense colours, opulent accessories and luxurious fabrics, often masculine but always sophisticated!

This lounge area (above) by interior designer Kara Mann plays with natural and organic elements and quite subdued tones of browns, greys and plums. Its appeal is in its uncomplicated simplicity.

This for me is perfectly crazy! I love the eccentricity that Kara Mann pulls off so well. Gold paired with black and grey is always a winning combination; it adds a note of glamour and edginess.

I am a sucker for panelling - adorning a bland wall gives such richness, especially when it’s finished in a dark colour. In this instance, I really enjoy that the artwork isn’t framed and also that it doesn’t fit exactly within the beading of the panels, both are features individually and together they make a bold gesture, and an ornate chair is always chic!

Aubergine walls, worn parquet floors and vintage suitcases, what’s not to love? I think the English Equestrian look is forever cool; you can never go wrong with a lil chesterfield armchair and Ralph Lauren-esque décor.

If you’re more of a colour person, this could be for you. I really like that shades of green have been explored in this space and popped with the magenta ottoman and the acidic hue scatter cushion.

If only I could get my hands on this skull base lamp! Seriously gorgeous, and with the chartreuse accents against the grey, I have a serious design crush. Love that this image shows how accessories can change the feel of a space, definitely a way to add some dark & moody for the chilly months.
