Hong Kong Airlines have launched its all-business class service between HK and London, another stage within the revival of a type of travel that many people thought would become outdated. The premium plane landed at London Gatwick on the 8th March, adding a new service to a route that has been well served by airliners such as Cathay Pacific, British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, Qantas and Air New Zealand.

Even though the airlines are a competitive form of travel, Hong Kong Airlines feel that they have the market for all business class travel, which has requirements of far higher seat prices to support a plane that only has 116 seats -34 of them lie flat and the other 82 are “club classic business seats”.

Less than 5 years ago, consumers had many more options when it came to business class services, with Eos, Silverjet and MaxJet transporting passengers between Europe, the US and Dubai. All three of these airliners took a tumble around 2008, leading many to question whether consumers would pay for all business class travel, when almost all long-haul flights offer separate cabins for business class. Singapore Airlines converted some of its jets to all business class in 2008 and still remain running services between its cvonnection at Changi, New York and LA in ultimate comfort.  At an 18.5 hours, Singapore Airlines Flight 21 between Newark and Changi is the longest scheduled, non-stop flight in the world, so comfort is at utmost importance.

OpenSkies offers an all-business service between Paris Orly and Newark in New York and is a successor of French carrier L’Avion, which offers individual tablet computers and four-course meals to passengers.

In 2009, British Airways launched a similar service between London City Airport and New York, using the flight numbers BA001-BA004, which were once flown by Concorde, which was technically the world’s first all-business service.
