“A home away from home” is an oft-quoted cliché for hotels of a certain caliber, but when the Naumi Hotel Singapore looked to the White Jacket design studio, it wasn’t just anyone’s home they wanted to replicate. After a renovation that cost million of dollars, the centrally located establishment re-opened with rooms inspired,  – or perhaps imagined – as the choice of the likes of Andy Warhol and Coco Chanel.

Naumi has sought to mix the contemporary with luxury, intermingled with art of the modern variety. The design has also cleverly hidden some of its finest touches, making maximum use of the compact space in its smaller, sleek rooms.

The Andy Warhol room, known as the “Nirwana,” is perhaps the hotel’s biggest treat, where imagination has run wild to create a children’s playground of a room, yet recalling the kind of romantic space that Austin Powers would revel in. The central bathtub is shaped like a giant round cup that’s both chic and kitsch, while the colorful decorations – including Andy Warhol prints – are plush, comfy and compelling.

The Camellia room on the other hand is designed to be enduringly feminine, inspired by French fashion designer Coco Chanel. The monochrome design and pale mint green flourishes exude elegance, while hanging mirrors and a window-side bathtub recalls a grand European hotel from a century prior.

Naumi Hotel isn’t just striking inside the rooms though. Located in Seah Street behind Bras Basah Road the nine-story building is laced on its exterior with greenery, and the emphasis on modern art is evident from the moment guests step inside. Hallways are illuminated by art installations, the elevators gently pulse with soothing lights, and the hotel now boasts the dining establishment Table, by Indian fine-dining specialists Rang Mahal.

Perhaps two of Naumi Hotel’s most distinct characteristics come with its dedication to female travellers, and with its in-house Naumi Angels. An entire floor is set aside for female guests to ensure added privacy, with softer lighting, complimentary hair straighteners and a yoga mat for each room. The Angels meanwhile serve all rooms with a turndown service that offers a complimentary drink to guests.

The hotel is topped off with champagne and wine bar Cloud 9, which boasts the first rooftop infinity pool in the city and a view of the Singapore skyline that features colonial architecture in the foreground, framed by the modern skyscrapers of the central business district behind.
