<p>tashas, in support of entrepreneurship, has chosen to put the spotlight on <strong>Milton Mzobe</strong> from <strong>Seeds of Africa</strong>. Seeds of Africa is a non-profit organisation promoting the community to uplift through skills development and enterprise development initiatives. These initiatives create employment and encourage entrepreneurship in previously disadvantaged communities in South Africa. The project provides skills training for local artisans and mentors them in the process of setting up their own sustainable businesses. Seeds of Africa currently has 20 businesses operating under its banner. </p>
<p>Milton has designed and created these bracelets which are hand crafted and beaded.</p>

<p>Nicolas Nicolaou from GEM created a spectacular setting under the stars and Alex and Melpo from AM Branding designed the 70's themed menu. tashas served 86 guests and we all celebrated generously with delicious food and company.</p>

<p><br/> Known for his passion to give back, Jeremy Mansfield took centre stage hosting the evening with entertainment from Cathy Specific entertainer Brendan van Rhyn and live music from South Africa’s own, Denim. Renowned South African auctioneer Joff van Reenen, from The High St Auction Co encouraged patrons, media and guests to dig deep into their pockets and make a difference to the lives of orphaned and vulnerable children in South Africa. Over R115 000 was collected from the auction.</p>

<p>I was away for two months on a journey of indulgence, food and adventure. These are just some of the highlights of my trip.</p>
<p>My travels started in Paris where I went on the amazing <strong>LVMH</strong> tour of Champagne with my friends. We explored the <strong>Krug Cellars</strong>, sipped champagne and dined at the <strong>Jardin</strong> restaurant. I ordered the Parma Ham and Melon starter which was overwhelming and delicious at the same time. I went to the food market in Cannes and chose delicious products for my lunch that I was going to prepare for my friends. One of my favourite things is going to markets and taking in all the smells, colours and tastes.</p>

<p>St Tropez is a combination of glamour, wealth and fun! One of my favourite restaurants is <strong>Le Voile Rouge</strong>. The crayfish and the vongole pasta are outstanding and I recommend it to everyone. The mouth watering mille-feiulle with macaroons was served at a friends house and I had to show you this(photo above)</p>

<p>I would walk to the markets most sundays, tasting olives, smelling the flowers and buying fresh produce for my lazy lunches and dinners. St Tropez has a quaint feeling about it and a sense of innocence. Walking in the streets allowed me to absorb this calm, light energy.</p>

<p><strong>Le Club 55</strong> is the hot spot of St Tropez. They are famous for the crunchy crudite platter that is served with boiled eggs and a delicious anchovy and mustard dip. Since I have come back I have been perfecting this recipe at home....and it might be featured in our new tashas menu!</p>

<p>The slow cooked lamb with fresh garden green vegetables was succulent and tasty. I was introduced to the latest <strong>Moet et Chandon Piscine</strong> that is served with ice.</p>

<p>Now St Tropez is known for her <strong>Tarte Tropezien</strong> which is a sponge cake filled with 3 different creams. There are queues outside the shop and I'm still having dreams about the tarte!!</p>

<p>My house in Cyprus(Droushia) is a traditional home that is filled with loving memories of my family and especially my father. I prepared a traditional lunch for my family and served them koupes, nuts, breads, and pies. <span xml:lang="EN-GB" lang="EN-GB">Koupes are served as a meze as we call it in Greek or a snack,</span> <span xml:lang="EN-US" lang="EN-US">which is usually eaten by the hand. Its</span> <span xml:lang="EN-GB" lang="EN-GB"><span> </span>crust is made of bulgur wheat, flour, oil, salt and egg (optional) and stuffed with ground meat, lots of onions, parsley and spices. Actually the ones sold by street vendors were mostly with lots of onions and parsley and less minced meat.</span></p>

<p>This was my first time in Turkey and I must say I loved it. I enjoyed the grilled fish sandwich in a roll with lettuce, onion, salt and lemon. Mussels stuffed with savoury rice and a squeeze of lemon is enjoyed as food 'on the go' in Istanbul.</p>

<p>My favourite meal was at this local restaurant in Istanbul called House Cafe. I loved these giant artichokes with lemon and dill sauce, served with potatoes, peas and carrots. The fried brinjals with yoghurt and green peppers were delicious.</p>

<p>In Istanbul they eat this cold soup which has chickpeas, bulgar wheat, yoghurt, dill. paprika and mint, and it has now become a favourite of mine. The cheese pida (folded flat bread with cheese) is worth going back to Istanbul for.</p>

<p>I had an incredible time overseas and it got my creative juices flowing. I experienced different tastes and flavours, which have now influenced my new menus for tashas. I hope you all enjoy what I have brought back with me.</p>

<p>The olive stand was plentiful and I selected the perfect olives for our salads.</p>
<p>Wayne from Buffalo Ridge and his wife Michelle provide South Africans with the highest quality buffalo milk mozzarella. They have imported Water Buffalo from Italy. These delicious delights are on our new menu!!</p>

<p>It was love at first sight when I read a tashas menu on the internet two years ago. <em>I wish Cape Town had one of these</em>, I thought, and since mid April, we do. At Constantia Village.</p>

<p>With one Mozambican Greek granny and another from Cyprus, Natasha has great food genes. She bought a Ninos store in 2001, converted it to the first tashas and today has five stores in Joburg, one in Pretoria, one in Durban and the most recent arrival in Constantia.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>I love the all-day availability of eggy meals, the robust Mediterranean flavour combos popping with fresh greens and the generally generous sauciness of their food. Not to mention the bespoke interiors. It’s a chain, but <em>not</em>. Light breezy interiors are a characteristic, as are natural textures and the tashas signature blue/grey/green palette. Each store has its own local flavour. Urban melting pot in Rosebank vs champagne set at Melrose Arch, to describe but two. For Constantia, Tasha wanted to recapture some of the French flair of her first store at Atholl Square.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Now, enough about the decor. I was super excited to sample her menu and as the Afrikaans saying goes, <em>die oomblik was vir my te groot</em>… I got a bit…dilly. My friend Douw, with enfuriating clarity, ordered the perfect cold weather meal. A delicious French onion soup with Gruyere croutons. Lovely at R48.</p>

<p>I suffered from a bout of ordering-anxiety so eventually played spin-the-spoon on the menu and asked for a half-portion of baby pear and gorgonzola salad. It was really good but it wasn’t French onion soup. Have I mentioned the generous portions?</p>

<p>Douw again hit the nail on the head with a hearty bowl of pea and bacon pasta topped with ricotta cheese (R78). I fell for the more showy linefish in light soya, spring onion, sundried tomato, green olive and lemon sauce served with truffle oil parmesan potatoes (R130). Both are from the signature Constantia menu.</p>

<p>I loved the tart, lemony sundried tomato and green olive sauce but would have preferred the fish and potatoes less fried. If you love your baby potatoes done to a golden crisp, this one’s for you. A meal with cold-weather gravitas but beyond my capacity.</p>

<p>Still not convinced that I’d had enough of tashas, I went back for the crayfish sandwich – yet another Constantia signature dish. Two tails in Marie Rose dressing and herb salsa with green olives, lemon and capers. Served with chips and, of course, gold cutlery. Got to love it. Gold cutlery, but only if you order the crayfish salad or sarmie (R160 – R210 depending on tail size).</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Another brilliant touch for the Southern belles would be <em>The King, Queen and I</em> trio of fresh crustless gourmet sandwiches. Perfect for nibbling on with a glass of crisp Constantia wine, of which there is plenty on the wine list.</p>

<p>I love a bit of Marie Rose with shellfish and topped with this herb salsa, the crayfish was delicious. The menu recommends ciabatta but I foolishly asked for baguette (stickler for the French theme) which was semi-rye and quite chewy. My little gold knife couldn’t quite cut it… Crayfish with such a nice dressing – me thinks – is best served on soft white bread to absorb the lovely juices. If you can’t make up your mind about the bread, there’s always cake. And lots of it.</p>

<p>tashas… welcome to the Cape. With plans of having 12 – 15 bespoke stores countrywide in the next five years, I’m holding thumbs for one in the winelands. Avoid ordering-anxiety by visiting <a href="http://www.tashas.co.za">www.tashas.co.za</a> for a good look & drool at the menu. Next time I’m going with the gourmet hot dog.</p>

<p>I can say with utmost confidence that this is my new favourite spot in Cape Town. It’s light, it’s fresh, it’s contemporary cool and oozes creative confidence. Tashas Constantia offers customers a casual, cosy spot for a divine brunch (the choices are endless), a deliciously healthy lunch (salads, sandwiches, Turkish flatbreads, quesidillas… the menu is enormous!) or a cup of heavenly coffee with a choice of scrumptious pastries, which are laid out on the counter beneath gorgeous, vast bell jars. The interior is warm yet subtle – whites, off-whites and wood blend for an at-home feel, complemented by simple décor and pretty cut-out leaves dangling from the ceiling. Tashas really has its own personality, one that we bonded with almost instantly!</p>
<p>My friend and I chose to test out the brunch and were blown away by what was on offer. I ordered the Bacon Rostis: potato rostis topped with streaky bacon, over-roasted tomatoes, rocket and a poached egg, drizzled with a forrestiera sauce. It was sensational to say the least and I quite literally scraped my plate clean. My friend went for a healthier option: the Forever Young, which consisted of rolled oats soaked in apple juice, mixed with crunchy muesli, topped with yoghurt, mixed berries and maple syrup, served in a glass. We left feeling overwhelmingly satisfied with not only the delectable dishes but the exceptional service and friendly manner. I was treated to a little box of colourful macaroons on my way out, which we sneakily enjoyed in the car on the way home.</p>

<p><strong>Recipe:</strong></p>
<p>-20 Medium Cherry Tomatoes</p>
<p>-100ml Olive Oil</p>
<p>-1 Sprig of Rosemary</p>

<p>-1tbs Chopped Rosemary</p>
<p>-80-100g Fresh Mascarpone Cheese</p>
<p>-250g Cooked Penne</p>
<p>-A handful of fresh rocket, coarsley chopped</p>

<p><strong>Method:</strong></p>
<p>-Preheat the oven to 180C</p>
<p>-Put the tomatoes in an oven tray, add the 100ml olive oil and mix until the tomatoes are</p>
<p> covered in oil.</p>
<p>-Remove the rosemary leaves from the sprig and sprinkle over the tomatoes.</p>
<p>-Season with salt and pepper.</p>
<p>-Roast in the oven for about 20 minutes or until the tomatoes are soft and their skins start to split. </p>
<p>-Then in a nonstick pan, heat the 2tbs olive oil and add the butter.</p>
<p>-Once the butter has melted, add the chopped rosemary and the tomatoes.</p>
<p>-Fry the tomatoes, squashing them to release the juices.</p>
<p>-Add the mascarpone and stir constantly until it melts, then add the pasta and cook until it is heated through.</p>
<p>-Remove from the heat, add and mix through the rocket, check the seasoning and serve immediately.</p>
