Besides being a universal symbol of love, friendship and beauty, the lovely entities named roses are also edible. Roses have been used as an ingredient in jams, jellies and also in baking. Rose oil is also used perfumery. There are over a hundred species of roses around the world, each a different shape, size and colour. The rose has been valued for its enchanting fragrance and exquisite beauty for simply centuries. Shakespeare often mentioned it in his works, for instance, and even as late as in 2002, roses were sent to outer space!
