The Long Wait is a series of artworks created on the streets of Johannesburg towards the end of September 2012, which constituted the first instalment of Fragments of a Burnt History opening at David Krut Projects, Jan Smuts Avenue, on November 8 2012. The images, referencing a photographic project by Alexia Webster entitled Waiting for Work, are of groups of men in various postures of waiting. The works imply different kinds of waiting particular to a contemporary South African context – “miners waiting for justice, workers waiting for a living wage, people waiting for service delivery, refugees waiting for assistance, we are all waiting for an honest politician. There has been so much waiting in this country that much time has been lost.”

Works in The Long Wait can be found in Soweto, Newtown, Maboneng Precinct, Commissioner Street, Jan Smuts Avenue, Oxford Street, Louis Botha Avenue, Braamfontein, Yeoville and Rosebank.
